ABOUT US"Newquay Jive Club" started back in 1999 in a small way at Newquay Sports Centre and now currently run three popular venues around Cornwall. Our teachers are Jill and Pam who also instruct for Plymouth Jive Club and we have a new teacher, Tracey, who instructs at the Penzance venue. WHO ARE WE ?

MURPHY & PAM - a motley crew but the mix seems to work!
We share the same enthusiasm and pleasure in seeing so many people
around the county, not only learning to dance, but gaining in
confidence, fitness, and discovering a whole new social life.

JILL has danced
since she could walk and is qualified to teach many forms of
dance, choreographing shows and pantomimes, including award winning
cabarets she organises for our dancers to take part in, such
as at the "Party Weekender" and routines for Plymouth
Jive Club. She has a wicked sense of humour creating a warm,
friendly atmosphere at our classes and helping to relax the new
ones which makes for a great evening out.
PAM, always a keen
dancer, was introduced to Modern Jive on a ski holiday by her
brother, Peter, (Ski & Rock holidays). She was immediately
hooked on this great way to partner dance but frustrated there
was no one doing it in Cornwall and so Peter suggested she get
something started herself, which she did, holding the first successful
class at Newquay Rowing Club where her friends there were more
accustomed to seeing her with a pint in one hand and an oar in
the other!
MURPHY,
who was also a top rower and former professional sailor, got
bullied into attending a jive class one night and proceeded to
demonstrate that he was, indeed, the worst person ever to try
and learn to dance! Although he has physical limitations, his
encouragement and enthusiasm rubs off on to new people and, in
particular, his ability to reassure sceptical new men. He also
holds the spectacular Jive BBQ at his house in Falmouth every
August.|
